Seattle to Portland (STP) 2008 - Centralia to Portland
Near Centralia, Washington, US on Jul 13, 2008
Total distance: 105 miles
Total time: 6 hours 23 minutes
Total ascent: 2731 ft, Total descent: 2817 ft
Rider notes: The second day turned out to be much better. I started the ride 15 minutes late, directly from the hotel. My legs were not ready this morning, and I averaged 14 mph for the first 20 miles.
Later on, I picked up speed, and by mile 90, I brought the average upto 16.7mph. During the last 10 miles, the average fell, bringing the overall average to 16.4mph. Better than yesterday, and I also managed to pass a lot of riders.
There were more rollers today than yesterday, and as a result, I met another milestone today. I completed 100,000ft of vertical climb for the year 2008 so far.

Total distance: 100 miles
Total time: 6 hours 13 minutes

Rider notes:
My fastest (and flattest) century! Except for the "The Hill" near mile 50, the ride is mostly flat, and so I managed to use the big ring (50) for most of the ride. The so-called hill averaged 7-8% gradient.
For the first 60 miles, I only averaged 15.7mph, but from mile 70 onwards, I pushed harder to reach Centralia by 1pm, exactly 7 and half hours after leaving Seattle. I did not think I was going to make it, but I finally did, and pushed the average to 16.1mph.
I started this ride early to beat the heat, and I barely managed to. By the time I reached the hotel, temperature was hovering around 90 degrees.
One more century tomorrow, from here to Portland.
