The plan was to take the beautiful (and flat) county roads and do a loop back through Hygiene.
Heavy cross-winds on CR-19, which became headwinds as I turned towards Longmont on CO-66. Finally, after crossing I-25, I gave up -- called for a personal sag support:( Ended the ride near Wal-mart on CO-66/US-287.
I wish my friend Subbu (who owns this site) was here, for I could have just ridden a couple of more miles to his home and demanded a great lunch for all the troubles I had taken to give him a surprise visit:) Alas... he is riding with an umbrella in Washington state...
Note1: CO-66 from WCR-19 to I-25 is bad for riding. Narrow shoulder with fast and fairly busy traffic. A safer alternative to go west would be to use WCR-24 or WCR-34.
Note 2: WCR-6 from WCR-5 to WCR-7 is unpaved (I didn't know that), but rideable packed dirt. But better approach would be to take WCR-8 to WCR-7 and backtrack to WCR-6. Or to use WCR-7 directly from WCR-2 (Baseline Rd, CO-7).
